Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA) is a body of players in the shea value chain including shea butter producers, aggregators, consultants and researchers. The GSBA is committed to creating and integrating local and international markets; through innovation, dynamism, capacity enhancement and resilience of actor players in the shea value chain. The GSBA has its administrative headquarters in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region, with membership from the five regions of the North (Upper East, Upper West, North-East, Savannah and Northern Region). The Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA) which have met all legal requirement and got registered in 2023 have over 60 businesses/ key players in the shea industry as pioneering members
The Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA), is a business-oriented, non-political, non-tribal, non-ethnic,
independent shea association, a fountain for current and future growth and development of the shea
industry in Ghana. The Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA) seeks to connect the shea industry to
gobal scale by working with local and international partners- Businesses and industries, International
Nongovernmental Organizations (INGOs), Non- Governmental Organizations, Intergovernmental
Organizations (IGOs) and governmental agencies to promotes public awareness and driven demand for
products and services.
AIM
1. Facilitate the development and efficiency of businesses and actors in the shea value chain
2. Create a favourable market for shea products- both locally and internationally
3. Collect, research and disseminate information on the shea to local and international partners
4. Establish a strong collective bargaining power for shea quality standard practice and price
negotiation.
5. Promote strong partnership, business development and advocacy to propel growth and
development of the shea industry
6. Contribute to a universal order based on principles of human dignity, solidarity of peoples and
freedom from exploitation in the shea industry.
7. Undertake initiative to prevent activities such as felling of shea trees for charcoal production and
firewood, Exportation of raw materials (Shea nuts).
Membership
1. Promote the work of the GSBA in their professional fields, businesses and in the network
2. Contribute to the work of the GSBA where needs and their knowledge and skills match
3. Stay informed of UIA’s activities by reading the Secretariat’s quarterly and annual reports;
4. Participate in the General Assembly (held every two years in place any parts of Northern Ghana) either in person or by proxy.
5. Right to participate in GSBA Round Tables and training sessions
6. Posting of news relevant to associations on the GSBA
7. Rights to share the shea business information on the GSBA page or websites
8. Exclusive rights to data extractions and customized services of GSBA
9. Professional advice on attracting international associations or businesses
10. Must complete the membership form and pay all dues or financial commitments prescribed in the constitution
11. Other benefits that board or management members have approved

Mission Statement
The Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA) is a platform for actors in the shea industry in Northern
Ghana for the purpose of cooperation, collaboration, networking, marketing, service, advocacy and
promoting the shea industry. The Ghana Shea Butter Association (GSBA), is to create a market; locally
and internationally by engaging multi of actors including private, public and international businesses by
providing easily accessible, reliable, comprehensive, quality and cost-efficient shea products.

IMPORTANCE

Anti-inflammatory

Shea butter contains components with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can help reduce skin swelling, which might help treat conditions associated with skin swelling such as eczema.

Moisturizing

Shea butter is an emollient that softens and hydrates skin, especially dry or combination skin. It contains fatty acids that improve the skin's natural barrier and protect it from environmental damage.

Healing

Shea butter is rich in vitamins A and E, which nourish and protect the skin. It may also help soften scar tissue and prevent the formation of keloids..
